Jarel Jack was inspired by the birth of his daughter Genesis, to find freedom through writing. As a young man with aspirations of being heard possibly through Hip-Hop, Jarel felt his calling would be just as relevant using his voice through poetry. Finding himself incarcerated, the thoughts of providing his daughter Genesis with a better future, Jarel decided to write descriptively, poems of deep reality and encouragement. Once Jarel realized his life started over once Genesis was born, the words began to grace the page. Figuratively and literally her birth helped to ease Jarel's time. Hence the title: Genesis Helped My Sentence.
