Teen sleuths Kim and Kelly return in book two. Kelly reluctantly joins Kim on a school science camping trip up into the mountains which surround their small Colorado town The same area where eerie lights have been sighted, hikers reported missing, and rumors of a phantom lurking about have police baffled and the campers terrified. Still, the trip goes on as planned. Kim is skeptical: "It's all just a bunch of talk to keep kids out of the woods." However, she quickly changes her mind as, one by one, girls from their group begin to disappear. When Kelly falls prey, Kim goes on the case, in search of her best friends and answers to the growing mystery. Then a chance meeting with Detective Eddie Bancroft, whose own case leads him to the same patch of peculiar forest, brings Kim renewed hope. The two team up but will they find the missing girls and bring the criminals to justice in time?
