The road of revenge is well-traveled, for the living and the dead walk it together. For centuries, Dorak's tribe have been the guardians of the Crystal Caves, whose waters carry the promise of untold power. When a traitor from within helps the dark sorceress Zara massacre his people and seize the Caves, Dorak is left without kin or kingdom. His oath of vengeance now calls him to destroy the only other surviving member of the tribe--the evil wizard who betrayed them. With no allies left alive, Dorak can ask only the gods for aid. Tearing his way through the warded gates of the gods with the body of his kinsman Tarkas is the closest he comes to asking politely. Restored to life by the gods for some hidden purpose, Tarkas now finds himself on a quest for answers as well as vengeance. Haunted by the shadow of his own recent death, Tarkas seeks those answers along the road above all else. As long as he walks at Dorak's side, he knows a swift and bloody vengeance will never be far from his reach.
