The School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (ESAV) was born amid great cultural diversity, due to the presence of teachers, students and staff from various parts of Brazil and abroad. This diversity points to the existence of different behaviours, habits, aspirations, actions and values. For this reason, ESAV set out to create a sense of unity and identity. It is in this context that the function of the Esavian Spirit developed: to shape Esavian souls. This spirit permeated the institution with the aim of morally shaping everyone who was part of the School, propagating values such as solidarity, love for the institution, honesty, leadership and humility. Sport contributed to the dissemination of this spirit. Sport and the Esavian Spirit did not act in isolation, but there was a close relationship between the principles that were fostered in both. Values such as cooperation, honesty, leadership, and defence of the institution's colours permeated the discussions found in the sources, whether referring to the Esavian Spirit or to Sport, strengthening the actions and aspirations of the Esavians in consolidating the institution.
