Does beach volleyball have what it takes to become a national sport? In Germany, this young, up-and-coming sport is facing a paradigm shift. Either it manages to become more professional, attract new sponsors and gain more attention, or it will remain a niche sport. Sports manager and author Stefanie Prange de Oliveira has addressed this issue and examined the possible effects of introducing a flat-rate licence fee for self-marketing. Because however the conflict of interest between the athletes and the association, which has been smouldering for twenty years, is resolved, it will be decisive for the future of the sport.
