A current crime uncovers old secrets, in the shadow of World War II... Kerstin Seeliger is a young trainee detective with the Hamburg Criminal Police. After the sudden and mysterious accidental death of her grandfather Ulrich, Kerstin senses that something is amiss. Ulrich was investigating the father he never knew and, in doing so, stumbled upon a secret of unimaginable proportions. Now Kerstin, too, begins to ask questions that will have life-threatening consequences - there is no doubt that there is more to this story. In her grandfather's archives, she finds clues about the German submarine U 193, which mysteriously disappeared in 1944, and documents that point to a village on the Portuguese coast. The only next step is to travel to Portugal and continue her investigation there at her own risk, and against the expressed order of her superiors. There she gets support from José Manuel, with whom she falls in love. The Nazi connection is joined by the specter of the PIDE, the former secret police of dictator Salazar, and also a mysterious farm in Sintra that seems to hold the key to the puzzle. The deaths will not stop... Who would want the events of the Second World War to remain secret today?Who in the Portuguese police can be trusted?
