An orphaned boy is brought to Silvanest and the House of Charity at the Temple of Maywen under the care of Matron Acolyte Neisa. From across the Rhye Sea, from the besieged town of Oakenfell, in the Kingdom of Tobril, a young girl and her family are taken captive to Havershaw Island under the banner of the D'Avoneese. From these beginnings, we follow Edalis, a troubled orphan with a restless spirit and callings he cannot explain becoming an apprentice Stormcaster, and Rebecca, a slave-girl of a cruel master, Davin D'Avoneese, desperate for freedom. Two lives in the midst of their personal storms come to find each other and try and weather their storms together under looming prophecies, mysteries, and visions.
