The Land Before Us tells the story of Nimîsêw, an eleven-year-old Cree girl who learns about her people, her land, and the power of her own voice. Guided by her wise Kôhkom, she discovers that love for the land is shown through action and that even young people can make a difference. When she sees the damage caused by deforestation near her home, Nimîsêw proposes a seasonal tree-planting ceremony to restore the land and celebrate her culture.
