In 1967, in a small New England town, 13-year-old Mikey Howard has a secret. He has a unique psychic ability to dream of past events related to the present, which he calls dreamtrips. It is the first day of summer vacation, and for him, this is a time of magical fun. But this summer's magic is turned upside down by the re-emergence, after 15 years, of a pedophile predator. He is connected to Mikey through Mikey's budding romance with the predator's intended victim, Beth LaChance. Through a chance encounter with the predator, Mikey has a dreamtrip witnessing the murder of one of the girls kidnapped 15 years earlier. On a hike with friends, Mikey discovers the location of the grave of the murdered girl, eventually notifying the police of its location. A decision that puts him in the crosshairs of the predator. For small-town detective Francis 'Book' Symcowicz, the past and present collide when on the same day he receives an anonymous tip revealing the location of the grave of a cold-case kidnap victim, Beth LaChance disappears. As Book and his fellow detectives investigate both the source of the anonymous tip and the disappearance, Beth struggles to survive her kidnapping. The tension ramps up to a heart-racing, page-turning conclusion.
