Two perspectives, a mother seeking to find out everything about autism and a son who just wants, "To live and enjoy my life a little." Evidence published in the medical literature over the past several decades provides a link between developmental language disorder and impaired function within the auditory system of the brain. Enough is known about un-physiological procedures used in childbirth and neonatal care that could be changed, to investigate a possible causal role. The increase in prevalence of autism over the past 2 to 3 decades has dealt a tragic blow to too many families. The over-funding of genetic research should be re-directed to investigating possible causes of autism in plain view that could be stopped. Childhood, grandmothers, great-grandmother, Dad, brothers, schools, hospitals, New England, New York, California, the world, planes, trains, anxiety, and a leave-of-absence from a "community" group home.
