Written for the Sesquicentennial of the Town of Hancock, Maine, A History of the Town of Hancock 1828-1978 collects stories and images recounting 150 years of local history. Focusing primarily on town history from 1928-1978, with the inclusion of earlier material to provide perspective and relevance in its presentation, it was intended as a continuation of the previous town history published in 1928. "Life being very different today that it was even fifty years ago we have endeavored to bring to all of you a glimpse of what it was and perhaps to some of you refresh rememberances of former years. We may have omitted some things that should have been included and may have included some things that should have been omitted but we hope, as you read, your interest in what we have done will give you the tolerance to forgive mistakes (spelling, grammar, names misplaced, or whatever) that have escaped us.-The Sesquicentennial Committee, 1976" Chapters1.
