Young Jaylyn "Lynn" Madden moves from the Big Apple to one of the so-called "Happiest States", only to find out, weeks after she moved into her new house, that her parents are getting divorced. Lynn completely closes down after learning of the divorce; even her friends can't make her feel better. After it finally sinks in that Lynn's life will forever be reminded of this tragedy, she makes her way back to her friends, only to realize that one of her friends is a murderer. She rushes to tell her best friend, Alaina. When Lynn sees Alaina, she is filled with rage and does not want anyone her age to experience the joy of having non-divorced parents.
