Eric is retired and living contently in his Cotwolds home, residing in the beautiful village of Broadway. Through careful budgeting and with the help of his lovely wife; Sheila, he was lucky enough to obtain early retirement at the ripe old age of sixty. Being classified as ripe, convinced Eric that his retirement was exactly on time. All was going well, he and Sheila had a good life, it was not the high life, but it was a comfortable life that only required, a metaphorical small step ladder to reach. They could cover the everyday bills, a weekly trip to the local pub and a holiday once a year. They also entertained their hobbies; Sheila's involved visiting the gym twice a week, whilst Eric had his "classic car."This was until Eric received a demand for back taxes from the Inland Revenue. With no hope of arguing with the taxman, which would have been as futile as asking a brick wall to give a little. The bombshell seriously dented the pension pot, which, when compared to a witch's cauldron, was a pot hardly big enough to prepare bat wing soup, and certainly could not harbour all the other ingredients your average witch supplements in a soup. The only conclusion, Eric had to seek employment. Living in a vibrant village such as Broadway, the task should have been easy. However, when you are a man who is a certain ripe age with ripe opinions, the job market finds such qualities as past their best. This leads Eric and Sheila looking into other forms of income. They plumb for Holiday Lets, it made sense, they had a large garden located in the charming Cotswolds where holiday accommodation was always at a premium. However, as Eric discovers, there are holiday lets, and then there are a myriad of ever more holiday lets. Therefore, with the determination of a man desperately trying to obtain an income without spending a penny, Eric makes various appointments. It is whilst Eric is pursuing his cause that he manages to upset Sheila, who becomes fed up with Eric constantly bemoaning his lot, that she leaves. Desperate to find Sheila, Eric sets off to win her love back. However, the task in securing the love of his life, is no walk in the park, although it may have been; Sheila took the car keys! This spiteful act, leaves Eric to deal with another foe of the middle classes; Public transport. So can our hero, win back his only love and bring her back to his loving arms. Or will he lose out, leaving Sheila at arm's length for evermore. Which leaves Eric with another niggling question, why are arms being used as a form of measurement, when hands and feet already have that dimension covered.
