In a world where magic is wielded by few but enjoyed by many; used to create architectural marvels and useful artifacts, Liah finds herself living in a town where it's used only to grow fruit. It's not all bad, though. Her friendship with Sarah helps her deal with her father's untimely death, her mother's cold demeanor, and her brother's departure to a monastery... Too bad Sarah's planning to move to the capital soon, and Liah will have to stop corresponding with her brother, who'll get inducted any day now; a magical procedure that could change him forever. In her darkest hour, Liah wields magic for the first time and decides to come along with Sarah, finding the handsome, charming, and seemingly useless Perdix along the way. Is his amnesia even real? How will Liah use her newfound, so coveted powers? How will she react when she begins to understand the ways in which mages are really treated? Did she escape from her mother's grasp just to find herself living a life she despises again? To avoid that, Liah will need to learn who she can trust, and find a way to forge her own path.
