Jeremiah Barren slouches in the corner booth of the dimly lit, smoke-filled bar, peering at the others within the room over the tankards on the table in front of him. Despite the presence of the ale, and his status as the town drunk, he isn't there to drink, but to watch. To observe. He's only one member of a group aimed at converting murmured bar gossip into profits at the market; to exploit the loose lips of the inebriated and harm the wealth of The Director, Darkwell's ruthless leader. Despite his outward appearance of uselessness, he is rather effective in this role. It's when their scheme victimizes the wrong targets that their lives are put in danger, causing their plan to unravel, and for all involved to face The Director's sadistic wrath. As things spiral out of control, The Director makes clear that he wants to end their defiance once and for all, and they quickly realize that he won't stop until each of them is out of the way.
